How to let their Personality SHINE on Picture Day | Denver School Photographer

This is simple. Let them be them. Each little one (or big one) out there, has their own personality, style and character. As a photographer, that is what we want to capture most. We want to see the real happy kid shine through. That is what we are here to capture. Something that they and you can look back on and say yes, that is who I was in that moment.

 Let them choose their outfit.

Let them choose their accessories.

Don’t make them smile.

Help them feel comfortable in front of the camera, by practicing posing.

Why you let them be BOLD on picture day | Denver School Photographer

Be Bold on Picture Day

Why you should let your children be bold on school picture day? School picture day comes once a year. Sometimes twice.  This is the one day where everyone dresses to the nines. This is the one day where they can shine and you can capture that. It is a great day to work on building confidence in your child. Confidence is key. Let’s grow that confidence together.

What NOT to Wear on School Picture Day | Denver School Photographer

School picture day can be a stressful time as a parent. When we are stressed, our kids can feel it too. An easy way to get the best out of your child during school picture day is to involve them in the decision making process and that starts with what they will wear. Here are a few ways we recommend going about choosing the perfect outfit.

1. New, unwashed clothes. We all know unwashed clothes are not comfortable. Jeans are tight, shirts are stiff. Make sure you give your child’s clothes a wash, preferability with fabric softener before school picture day. Also jeans usually are more comfortable the second day wearing them. So if you only have to spot clean a pair of just worn pants, even easier.

2. Something they’ve never seen. Sometimes surprises are good. For picky kids they are not. Especially on an important day. Make sure you talk to your kids about what they are going to wear on school picture day and set it out the night before.

3. Something that will out shine them. This can also mean something that they don’t feel comfortable in. If your child doesn’t like wearing colors, don’t make them. When your child loves their outfit, that will shine through in their photos which is what matters most. Letting their confidence shine.

4. Something they are not comfortable with. Your girl doesn’t like dresses? Don’t make her wear one. Your boy isn’t comfortable in a button up shirt. Don’t make him wear one. Getting them involved in the decision makes all the difference.

School picture day outfit take away? Kids know what they like. And so do you. Work together to find something that you can both be proud about on school picture day. Share your favorite outfit choices in the comments below. And share this with other parents that might be struggling with the same issue! Good luck on school picture day!

How to dress your kids for picture day | Denver School Photographer

School picture day can be one most stressful days of the years for parents! We’ve complied some easy tips to dress your kids for school picture day.

1. Wear comfortable clothing

The biggest advice we can give is to make sure that your kids are comfortable in their clothing for picture day. You don’t want them to be fidgeting around, itching or uncomfortable when they sit down in front of the camera. Dress them in their favorite outfit or something they have worn before. Don’t be afraid to make them stand out! A vibrant outfit is always better than muted colors.

2. Consider the background
When you are dressing your children for picture day consider what the background of the photo will be. You want their outfit to compliment the background not clash with it. Colors in the same family work well. Don’t be afraid of a bold graphic or pattern. Mixing and matching can be fun as long as the colors blend.

3. Look at their eyes
You can really make your kids eyes pop by wearing colored clothing that compliments their eyes! Blues with blue eyes are gorgeous and darker eyes deserve a bold color!

4. Accessorize
Accessories can add a lot to your outfit. Keep it to one accessory though. If you are wearing something that is too big or flashy it can become the focus point of the photo instead of your kids.

5. Let their personality shine!
Let their personality shine.  If your kids are eccentric let them wear the clothes they want to wear. Pictures Days are meant to create lasting memories of how your child was at that point in time of their life, don’t take away from that by limiting or choosing their clothing for them.
